From the Wardens – Ss Simon & Jude, Cockshutt – June, 2023

Although the Church has now settled into its Quiet Time or Ordinary Season, life here at Ss Simon & Jude continues to gently roll on.

Tuesday 6th June was the 79th Anniversary of the D-Day landings on the beaches of Northern France; although not officially commemorated, here in Church a posy of early summer flowers was placed on the organ, our WW2 memorial, in remembrance of the fallen.

The dawn of glorious weather in the latter part of May and early June saw an explosion of colour in the churchyard; blazing orange Hawksweed (Fox & Cubs) at the front and the golden hue of Buttercups at the back, a real treat for the many pollinating insects, some of whom regularly pop into Church quietly gathering pollen from the altar flowers!

On Saturday 10th June we held our summer churchyard tidy-up.  The grass was mown in early June by the Probation team, but our volunteers, on a very hot day, continued with tidying the flower beds, Memorial Garden, and pathways.  Thank you to everyone who helped!

We also thank those of you who help, in a myriad of ways, with the upkeep and maintenance of the church.  It’s down to your efforts and due diligence that we did “weather the storm” of mid-June; lightning and strong winds always have us on high alert, but thankfully, we came through intact.

We continue to offer our thanks to the retired Priests who have been leading our worship during this past month; the services have been enlightening and certainly given us things to think about.

For now, we wish you all a peaceful and restful Summer; if you do have a moment, please visit the Church; it’s always open.  Everyone is welcome.

With our very best wishes,

Cathy and John
