Flowers for Pentecost – 28th May, 2023

Ss Simon & Jude, Cockshutt

Pentecost is a very special day in the church calendar and commemorates the flames of the Holy Spirit entering the disciples, and the beginning of the Church.

Cockshutt church is far from grand; indeed, it has garnered a reputation for being “Cockshutt the Chaste”.  Consequently, our desire is to keep things simple and where possible, we gather our flowers from the garden.  Bright, jewel-coloured flowers which might represent the flames of the Holy Spirit are not readily available in our gardens at this time of year.  Instead, we have gathered the subtle Blues of Centaurea, spires of Catmint and Veronica, and deep Red Peonies and Sweet William as our thanksgiving to God.

As always, we keep the fallen of WW1 and WW2 close to our hearts; in gratitude, simple posies of Catmint and Veronica have been placed before their names.
