The Search for Peace

Lent Meditations – 2023

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

(Psalm 4:8)

Yesterday was the final gathering of our 2023 five-week course of meditations for Lent, which was held at Welshampton Methodist Chapel and led by Rev. Anne.

During this season of Lent, the over-arching theme was one of “Peace”. Anglicans from across the Benefice and Methodists gathered together to enjoy fellowship, and participate in thought-provoking and lively discussion, fully aware that at this time, our world is in such a turbulent and tumultuous state; inevitably, we often fell into periods of quiet and deep reflection.

The Bible readings reflected the study for each week’s theme, which began with the search for and destruction of peace, followed by studies of God and peace in both the Old and New Testament.  We concluded with focusing on peace in the lives of believers.

Rev. Anne steered the discussion with great sensitivity and kindness with the occasional challenge to some of our own perceptions.

Each session ended with a quiet time of Evening Liturgy, a soothing antidote to the often unsettling nature of the course and the pursuit of a deeper faith with God our Father and Our Lord Jesus Christ during Lent.
