Parishioners joined with members of the Royal British Legion (RBL) and representatives of local organisations at Ss Simon & Jude for our annual Service of Remembrance.
It was, as always, a service of great solemnity and poignancy as we remembered all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in both WW1 and WW2 and more recent conflicts. The service was sensitively led by Rev. Ian Hutchins (ret’d) and the two minutes silence, following the roll call of those from Cockshutt who fell in both World Wars was, as always, deeply moving.
At this time of remembrance and deep sadness, today’s reading (John 15: 9-17) was a great comfort, as were the hymns, traditionally sung at this time: Eternal Father, Strong to Save and O God Our Help in Ages Past.
