From the Wardens – August 2023

Ss Simon & Jude Church, Cockshutt

During the quiet summer months, much has been happening here at church, albeit at a slower pace.

Worshippers from across the Benefice joined us for our hosting of the Benefice Eucharist.  The choir was a bonus in helping boost our singing whilst Doug, our organist, remains in hospital.

We received many visitors whether locals and passers-by or those seeking a place of quiet reflection having visited the grave of a loved-one.  We are always interested to read the Visitors Book and see where people have travelled from.

It has been a time for some gentle housekeeping; Fay has worked hard keeping the church spick and span, whilst Mel joined Warden John climbing up into the old musician’s gallery to clean the stained-glass windows.  Meanwhile, Mike our Treasurer found time to make a new noticeboard for the porch; what an improvement!

Thank you to all of you; your hard work is much appreciated!

On a quieter note, on 4th August we observed the Declaration of War in 1914, which led so much sacrifice and suffering, whilst on 15th August, we remembered the ending of WW2 in 1945, with the anniversary of VJ Day by placing simple posies on both memorials.

Please remember, the church is always open; we look forward to seeing you!

With our very best wishes,

Cathy and John
