Over time, the old noticeboard in the porch had taken the brunt of the vagaries of the weather and was looking very sorry for itself!
Thankfully, our talented Treasurer Mike, has a gift for working with wood, and once again, seeing a need, set about making a new noticeboard for our porch. Made entirely from recycled materials, it has its own little story to tell!
The pinboard is made from recycled plastic and so completely waterproof; although firm, it is pliable enough for pins to be easily pushed into; you’d be surprised how hard many are which makes the simple task of putting-up a notice very difficult indeed!
The wooden frame, however, brings a little piece of Wales to our Church, for it has been made from the off cuts of a wooden pew which had originally been used in Carrog Church, Denbighshire, North Wales, made redundant during a re-fit some years ago. Made from pitch pine and treated with a waterproof stain, the beauty of its grain is clear to see.
We can only wonder about who might have sat on the pew in days gone by, the sermons they listened to and the prayers they said.
