Coronation Songs of Praise – 7th May, 2023

Ss. Simon & Jude, Cockshutt

What a glorious morning we woke up to – blue skies and gentle warmth.  All the more welcome following the grim weather of Coronation Day!

Without a Vicar to lead our morning worship, we held instead, our own special service celebrating the coronation of King Charles III – Songs of Praise!

And what an uplifting service it was; yes, we were celebrating the coronation of King Charles III and praying for him, but so many of the hymns triggered many, many, memories; joyous ones from weddings, such as, “Praise my soul”, which of course was sung at the coronation itself, the rousing school hymn of “Jerusalem” and those focused on faith, service and gratitude, including “Now thank we all our God”.

The Bible readings were from Colossians 1: 9-17, Luke 22: 24-30, where we were reminded of the King’s oath to “serve and not be served” and the well-known passage from Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the sun.”

Following the Prayers of Intercession which were focused on the King, his family, his service and ministry among us, we sang the National Anthem.

Thank you to Michael, Doug and Cathy taking the time to put this celebratory and reflective service together for us.
