Easter Sunday – 9th April, 2023
Ss. Simon & Jude, Cockshutt
So often it seems, plans which have been in place for some considerable time, go awry – and so it occurred at Ss Simon & Jude, Cockshutt! Bishop Sarah was due to lead our worship on Easter Sunday, the most important day in the Christian calendar. Sadly, it wasn’t to be; with hours to go, Bishop Sarah had to withdraw, which left us with quite a conundrum; what were we to do? Our retired Priests had long-ago made other plans, flowers had been gifted and purchased, the Church had had its annual spring clean, and after-service refreshments organised.
Following some thought and careful consideration, the resourceful folk of Cockshutt came up with an alternative plan; we had an accomplished organist in Doug, plenty of hymn books and good singing voices; why not hold an Easter Songs of Praise Special?
And that is exactly what we did! With the Church looking beautiful, decorated with a stunning selection of White and Yellow flowers, we joyously sang (not quite lifting the roof off – I think our Wardens might had had something to say about that!) and celebrated our Lord’s Resurrection! Accompanied by Bible readings and prayers, and the lighting of the Paschal Candle, it truly was a lovely morning.
We would like to thank Cathy and Michael for organising this extra special morning of worship and extend our good wishes and prayers to Bishop Sarah and her family.
