This morning’s Worship was focused on one of the key days in the Church – Mothering Sunday, which was held at St. Michael & All Angels Church, Welshampton. The Service was led by our very own retired Priest, Rev. Anne; as always it was a service of great sensitivity, kindness and historical anecdotes as we considered the many reasons behind our celebration of Mothering Sunday. The hymns were old familiar ones, including the deeply moving Lord of All Hopefulness, and the rousing Now Thank We All Our God. Cockshutt Church Organist Doug was on organ duty at Welshampton today, and didn’t let us down with his obvious enthusiasm for these great hymns which carried our singing along beautifully.
Being Mothering Sunday, it is traditional for posies of flowers to be presented to all members of the congregation in celebration of the Mother Church and in gratitude to all Mothers; these were blessed by Rev. Anne prior to the celebration of Holy Communion and presented to the congregants during the final hymn.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a time of fellowship and refreshments with our friends from across the Benefice, before heading home.
Thank you Welshampton; it was a lovely morning and a truly lovely celebration of Mothering Sunday!
