When Morning Gilds the Skies

When Morning Gilds the Skies (and) The Sweet Church Bell Peals Over Hill and Dell*

Okay, so the bells weren’t pealing, but what a beautiful scene greeted us as we walked into Petton Church this morning for Sunday Worship!  It truly lifted our spirits as we hunkered down into our winter coats on such a beautiful, frosty morning.

In anticipation of the service being led by the Archdeacon, there was a healthy attendance from the across the Benefice; there was just one problem … he forgot to turn up!

Undaunted, the Church Wardens swung into action and came up with an alternative plan of action; Petton’s very own Informal Worship.  Claire led the Service, superbly assisted by Harry, who not only read the first reading, but also managed the music!

Afterwards, we enjoyed a time of fellowship whilst supping hot drinks and scrumptious chocolatey biscuits, kindly provided by Mary.

Thank you Petton, we had a lovely morning!

When morning gilds the skies,*
my heart awakening cries,
may Jesus Christ be praised:
alike at work and prayer
to Jesus I repair;
may Jesus Christ be Praised.

When’er the sweet church bell
peals over hill and dell,
may Jesus Christ be praised:
O hark to what it sings,
as joyously it rings,
may Jesus Christ be praised.
