Candlemass was well and truly celebrated at Colemere this morning (Sunday Feb.4th)
On a beautiful morning in a warm church it was a real ‘work of the people’ leitourgia. Barbara made sure that the altar was ablaze with all 16 altar candles, Michael was on his best form as thurifer, Margaret led well-prepared and much needed intercessions, Fr Paul celebrated the Holy Mysteries wearing the best white vestments, and there was even a choir to lead the singing. As the worshippers approached the altar to receive Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, they were at one with Simeon and Anna. There was a real sense of earth united with Heaven.
We ended with Keble’s beautiful Virgin Born, the Nunc Dimittis and their favourite piece of Handel. There have been many appreciative comments.
