Some long awaited updates and improvements at Ss. Simon & Jude, Cockshutt!
The church is having a makeover at long last. The process of applying for a grant started well over two years ago when our previous incumbent, Rev’d Maureen Read first asked the Diocese for permission to do some work. Because the church is a Grade II Listed Building, we needed to apply for a Faculty from the Diocese, and this was granted in August this year.

The work that needs doing is a revamp of the sound system, which is now 23 years old, and failing. New speakers, microphones, and a new loop system for the hard of hearing are required. The Application also includes equipment to enable Services, weddings, funerals, baptisms and and any other functions to be streamed on the internet for friends and relatives who are unable to attend, and also stream live around the globe. However, work has started on the sound system before we know if we will get a grant, because of the poor state it is all in.
Last year the damp, damaged lime plaster was removed from the internal walls and replaced with new lime plaster. All the interior now needs is re-decorating. All these works will be costing over £9,000 and the church is once again looking to the community for help towards paying for this very essential project.
At the moment we’re keeping our heads above water by just paying our monthly “Common Fund” of £365.00 to Lichfield Diocese, and the ever-increasing energy bills.
If you are able to make a contribution, then please see our Giving page or contact members of the PCC for details
We will keep you updated with any progress we make.
