A Major Event or a Minor Footnote?

Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.  Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:  19-20)

Despite the grim Winter weather, we were fortunate in having our spirits lifted by the recent informal visit from Organist Chris Lawton; a keen player of John Compton Organs, he travels around the country playing them in many wondrous venues, whether they be Churches, Cathedrals or Cinemas.  Well, Ss Simon & Jude may not be on quite that scale, but our organ is apparently a real gem!

Chris’s repertoire is vast; he began by playing many well-known songs from theatre and film, along with some jazz during which our toes were most definitely tapping!  Afterwards, he played a selection of favourite hymns, including Love Divine All Loves Excelling and Praise My Soul, whereupon we settled into a few moments of quiet reflection.

Thank you so much Chris.  It was a pleasure to meet you and listen to your amazing playing.  We look forward to your visit later this year.

In the meantime, you can can enjoy some of Chris’s organ playing at Cockshutt below, and other venues here.
